An optical fiber is a transparent flexible fibre made of a very pure glass (SILICA) which is not much wider than a human hair which act as a Light Pipe to transmit light between the two ends of the fiber. The field of applied science and engineering concerned with Optical Fiber is known as Fiber Optics. Optical fiber consist of transparent core surrounded by a transparent cladding material with lower index of refraction.This is how the fiber act as a Wave Guide or Light Pipe.Most of the telephone companies in different countries place long distance telephone lines which are made up of optical fiber.
